Labidochromis sp. "Hongi" is an undescribed species of cichlid fish from Eastern Africa. Other names for the fish include kimpuma, Hongi red top and Hongi cichlid and the most rare of all, the Hongi Sunflower. It is rare in the aquarium trade. The maximum size of the species is about 5 inches for the males while the females stay around 3.5 inches.

This "Sunflower" variant is a breeding type gained from selective breeding of Labidochromis Hongi red top which can not be found in the Lake.

In the lake the males of these species can grow to 9 cm, in the aquarium however they can grow taller because of a good feeding. The males can then grow to about 12 cm, females grow to about 9 cm.

Labidochromis sp."hongi" can behave intolerant against equal male species. Against other inhabitants they are in general tolerant. You can best keep this species with multiple females and a lot of hiding places in the aquarium.

In the lake they are mainly feeding themselves with little insects but also looking for food on rocks covered with algae. In the aquarium they are comfortable with any food. They take everything they get offered, like spirulina pellets, mysis, artemia, cyclops and shrimp-peas mix.
