It has become one of the most popular species in the family due to its coloration, disposition, and manageable size. A standard 55-gallon aquarium is large enough for this fish. It is omnivorous, but it is not an effective algae eater. It is not known to eat wood like some plecos (\u003cem\u003ePanaque sp.\u003c\/em\u003e, etc.), but it may benefit from some supplementary wood (or bio-film and algae on driftwood). The Sultan\u003cspan\u003e \u003c\/span\u003ePleco will not eat ornamental plants. Feed the Sultan Pleco a diet of meaty live, frozen, and dry foods as well as vegetables such as shelled peas, spinach, zucchini and cucumber.
